The Dortmund model – a consistent combination of theory and practice

Seven professors, a multimedia newsroom, an affiliated television station and an affiliated Institute of International Journalism: The technical equipment as well as the close supervision by lecturers mean that the conditions for studying journalism at TU Dortmund University are unique in Germany. The cross-media training in our labs covers print, TV, radio, online and social media journalism.

The range of courses on offer cover an impressively broad spectrum. Investigative journalism, conflict sensitive journalism as well as trauma and  war reporting and applied media research are just some examples. We provide training both in journalistic skills as well as communication science and thus consistently combine theory and practice.

Die praktische Journalistenausbildung wird am Institut für Journalistik groß geschrieben. In der crossmedialen Lehrredaktion KURT werden die Studierenden vorbereitet, für alle Medien zu arbeiten, sei es Online, Social Media, Fernsehen, Radio oder Magazinformate.
